Remixes & Blues Pt. II

You feel that? It must be love, yeah. It feels like a whole lot of love for Jacques Greene, the skilled 21 y.o. Canadian producer that popped up earlier this year, and has two forthcoming releases planned to come out on LuckyMe (preview) and Night Slugs (12″ featuring Optimum). Expressing his love for The-Dream to Dazed and his love for Ashanti in other ways, I couldn’t wait for a remix to arrive and it finally did last week. The track Must Be Love by Cassie and Diddy was the one to undergo a Jacques Greene handling and by now I don’t know whether to hate or love Greene anymore. The remix is really strong, he made the Combs bits about a ten times better, the entire musical accompaniment is pretty dreamy and I’m pretty sure that if Bad Boy released this one instead of the original it would’ve gone up higher in the U.S. Billboard than the 42 it hit two years ago. The crisis I’m in however is that I don’t like the original anymore, I tried listening to it today and the relationship I had with that track is gone – it sounds weak compared to this version. This track is forthcoming on Local Action, and for all the people crying that this ain’t a download, here‘s an acid tune Greene made to celebrate a 303 followers.

For the next two tracks I need to do a couple of shout-outs. One goes out to Total Freedom for providing us with these tracks and the accompanying Ciara gif in the first place, big up TF. These tracks are remixes of Ciara’s remix of Chris Brown’s Deuces, a hot track at itself and became a worldwide trending topic on Twitter almost immediately after she let this one loose – to be featured on her mixtape that she’ll release a little before the release of her album Basic Instinct. Which, on a sidenote, is produced by The-Dream and Tricky Stewart – the release date can’t arrive too soon. One remix of Deuces is done by NGUZUNGUZU; and I must say that their use of high hats and claps is sweet, as well as the use of a little a cappella bit alternated with vocal chop-ups. As heard on Girl Unit’s mix for Numbers, the Dubbel Dutch one kicks off a bit deeper but after a minute or so the bounce kicks in – leaving two minutes of something a little more up-tempo. Seeing the two tracks are around the three minutes mark is a good thing as Ciara’s take on this only lasted for two minutes..

This entire Ciara remix situation reminded me that I have another Ciara remix to share with you that was also done by NGUZUNGUZU; this one is a collaboration with aforementioned Total Freedom (cop the mix NGUZU and Freedom did together for Vortex here) and about one year old. They basically took Ciara’s parts of her track with Bow Wow Like You (2005 vybz) and built a new track around it. Equally crazy percussion to the percussion in the Deuces remix, good stuff.
