I first came across Luca Lozano and his imprint Klasse Recordings on their first release (KLS001 Luca Lozano & Sacha Robotti – Bartok) back in June of last year. But the music wasn’t the first thing that caught my attention, it was their cover design/logo. The cover consisted of just simple shapes in the form of a classic spoked wheel design with a geometric crown sitting above, with the just catalogue number situated inside the crown, it was so striking. It immediately made an impression on me. The image was so fresh and understated, I was drawn to it and that alone encouraged me to listen to the EP but I knew already that it was going to be great. 1 run though of the record later, it was confirmed, there was something special about these guys. Now it’s 7 months later and we are blessed with the 3rd release from none other than Luca himself hosting remixes from David Keno as well as Penner and Murder.

The title track Heaven & Hell is a slow burner which creates an old school funk vibe with the help of some disco handclaps, clever samples and a devious bassline that keeps everyone moving. On the other hand Got it Together is more of a straightforward assault on the dance floor which once it hits it’s peak there’s no where to hide. This along with the fact that he is a brilliant DJ all points to the obvious fact that Luca Lozano has an astute knowledge of what people need to hear and when to hear in a club environment. I think it’s safe to say there is a huge amount of acclaim to be levelled at both LL and his label this year and for many more ahead.

I also want to mention lots of goodness can be found on their site/blog which is always great to check out, always picking out great tracks and cycling related fun (a lot of hip-hop tracks too, winner.) I also demand that you visit and follow their soundcloud, you’ll find mixes and tracks from the Klasse fam (Luca Lozano, Sacha Robotti, Mr. Ho and Johanna Knutsson ) + others. There is also free downloads to be found which are released under the guise of ‘Klasse Quick Fix’, a series they have created to put out bootlegs, edits and general tracks that wont be released through the usual means. Happy daze.
