Leave it All Up in the Air

DERADOORIAN – YOU CARRY THE DEED (HIDDEN CAT REMIX) (320kbps)

I have not one but two little treats for our loyal readers today. The first one comes in the form of a remix by one of my favorite up and coming producers at the moment, Hidden Cat. I recently did an interview with him which you can read here in which I rambled on about how excited I was about some of his upcoming productions. I can finally show you why I was so excited! Hidden Cat was recently asked to remix a track by Deradoorian of Dirty Projectors fame. I’ll be honest, I’ve never actually listened to this band before but I gave my mum Deradoorian’s ‘Mind Raft EP’ for mothers day and she thought it was ‘da bomb’ so it’s got to be good right? The thing I love most about this remix is that it just doesn’t seem to get old. I’ve had it for such a long time now and I still enjoy it just as much as the first time I heard it. It has been a staple in my iPod playlists for a long time now and accompanied with a Marlboro Red and a Red Bull it is one of my favourite tunes to get my stroll on to. I won’t bother attempting to describe why this remix is so special, as it’s beyond me, but be sure to download it as he’s given us the okay to give it away for free. This kid is going to be HUGE! Don’t forget about us little people when you make it big Madison…

My second gift to you is a special mixtape I received from my friend Pocket Lipps. Pocket Lipps is Joe Garlick, a New Zealand born DJ and Art Director now based in Amsterdam. He wrote to me and my brother a while ago to let us know that he was chuffed that someone in New Zealand was making music akin to his tastes. We got chatting and it turned out that we had similar interests and could easily relate due to the fact that we were born in the same town. The man has been spinning records for over a decade now at venues ranging from grimey clubs to abandoned war ships… It also turns out he has been feeling all those obscure UK sub-genres I talked about a while ago. When asked what kind of stuff he likes to play, he replied, “whatever is going to force you to do that really unattractive face you make when you really like a tune…’ Here’s his most recent mixtape, it’s pretty impressive.

A perfect accompaniment to these recent Winter mornings here in New Zealand. Joe also does some pretty awesome graphic design work and has worked with some pretty big names here in New Zealand. You can check out his design work and other mixtapes here! ?

  1. That Pocket Lipps mix looks big! Cheers for the heads up. Always interested in graphic designers/djs.

  2. Yeah dude his mixes are super tight! The first transition from that Mount Kimbie remix to that James Blake track makes me wet!
