Arrogant’s Hometown

My new hobby is watching beat makers battle, specifically on Red Bull Big Tune contest. It’s not just about the music, they dance too, oh boy do they dance (some better than others). But it made me realise that we often don’t put enough of a spotlight on the producers of Hip-Hop tracks, we can’t see them through the bling on the videos. So in an effort to change this, we at TRUANTS are shifting our attention to the individuals on the MPCs occasionally.

Our first spotlight falls on C-Sick, a French born producer who moved to Chicago when he was just nine. It wasn’t long until his natural musical talent took hold, by the age of 15 he began using Fruity Loops to make Juke tracks and from that to Hip-Hop beats. Only 2 years later at the age of 17 he took his talents to the 2008 Chicago Big Tune Beat Battle which he won infront of none other than DJ Premier and with that victory it sent him to the finals in New York, where he was crowned champion. To date he has already fulfilled a dream held by many producers, making a beat for Nas. With that on his CV at the age of 19, I think it’s likely we will see a hell of a lot more from C-Sick.

This year saw him team up with Chicago native Arrogant to make one hell of a track in Hometown, an ode to the Windy City. C-Sick gets you hooked from the off with a lovely sample of Adele’s song of the same name using the piano line to full advantage, allowing Arrogant’s lyrics paint a faithful account of the city, nothing is rose tinted. It’s just home.
