Download: Moloko Remixes

With the Great Escape Festival in Brighton still fresh in the back of my mind, and weather so good I’ve actually resorted to putting on shorts the last 4 days, without sounding like a massive cliche it really does feel like summer is just round the corner. What better way to kick things off with a couple of Moloko remixes. Now I had originally only planned on doing a post on just the Ossie remix but there seems to have been a sudden resurgence of Moloko remixes as Joe & Will Ask, alongside with Kiwi, also recently upped one to their Soundcloud. I think its definitely that time of the year where Moloko starts to gets rinsed on the ipod, so I thought I’d make it a much more worthwhile effort on doing a joint post on them both.

It’s always a risk taking it upon yourself to remix a classic track that everyone knows and loves. You either make it work or you don’t but both Ossie and the Joe Will Ask boys are good enough producers in their own right to make sure they don’t fall in the latter group. Starting with Ossie, who chooses to rework the track “Sing It Back” opts for a slow paced groover, taking the best elements of the original and adding his own touches in the form of subtle piano stabs, a more intricate set of percussion and cheeky synth shots. Joe Will Ask & Kiwi on the other hand go for the 2000 smash hit “The Time Is Now’ which previously peaked at number 2 in the UK charts. The boys, like Ossie bring the BPM right down and work on maintaining a solid groove without, keeping the vocals intact and beefing out the bassline with what I think is a proper recorded bass guitar. Two awesome remixes which are bound to get rinsed over the course of the summer.
