Afrikaan Beat

I’ve never been, but by all accounts South Africa is a pretty remarkable country. The Rainbow Nation is known for its outstanding natural beauty, its remarkable wildlife, and of course its people, who speak a multitude of different tongues. Eleven are recognised by their constitution, including two of European descent; South African English and Afrikaans, itself a daughter language of Dutch. Which, of course, is a language spoken by many in Belgium. Which brings us to today’s song…

One of the more fun tracks to have landed in my inbox recently has to be this lovely little disco remix by Tyson, of Young Mountains, a duo from Ghent, Belgium. Having originally been more electro focused, Tyson now works more in the disco and house areas, here taking the most unlikely of source materials, and crafting a bouncy, upbeat number with a wonderfully positive atmosphere. With experience of DJing in places as far afield as Valencia and Ibiza, its not surprising that he has managed to make such an irrepressibly sunny sort of remix.
