Remembering Percee P

It’s only been a week or two since I last posted but it seems like so long ago. So it’s only fair I right I talk about someone really special and whose musical output is just as special. Well there is only one artist that I can think of who can fit the bill. Percee P. Who is, wait for it… the best rapper in the history of the world. A bold statement from a opinion that doesn’t really matter. But he is. All it takes is a listen to his freestyles from his infamous battle with Lord Finesse back in 1989 in the Bronx, it still sounds great today even though a Ice Cream truck did it’s best to ruin it.

Percee P’s story is a weird one considering my statement about his greatness. He started way back in 1979 at a very young age, his first appearance on a track was years later in 1988, but it wasn’t until 2007 his debut album surfaced, produced by the prolific Madlib and released through Stones Throw Records. Inbetween these years he featured and released the odd track here and there, all at an immaculate standard. Ok, sure in my opinion the album didn’t live up to what PP is capable of, but maybe the album format isn’t for him. Maybe it’s the freedom of picking the occasional project that allows him to be so exceptional. The freedom of releasing material so sporadically almost mirrors the freedom that reigns over his flow, which is unmatched by his fellow MCs.[wpaudio url=”https://dl.dropbox.com/u/11777861/10%20Day%20At%20The%20Races%20ft.%20Jurassic%205%20%26%20Big%20Daddy%20Kane.mp3″ text=”Percee P – Day At The Races ft.
