After their self-released free five track EP and tons of exquisite remixes in the past few months, NGUZUNGUZU are back this week with a full-fledged EP release called Mirage, out on Silverback Recordings on the eleventh of October. With tracks like Rec Loose and the title track of the EP being featured on mixes by Girl Unit and Voltron, and Strut on their own Truancy Volume in May, I knew that we were in for something big with their forthcoming release. Mirage has five killer tracks that contain their characteristic touch of controlling beats and hypnotic elements. Tracks like Spittin’ n Riddim and Rec Loose take over my emotions with eery feelings and haunting premonitions of some kind of jungle ghost town while Unfold makes me want to fight the final battle. Even though I’m usually not one for premature predictions, the sheer vibes this EP exudes and the amount of support it’s getting, you could easily call this one of 2010’s most important releases already. I would, anyway.

To celebrate the release of the EP, NGUZU have made a heavy forty minute promotional mixtape that is jam-packed with energy and electricity, just the way we like it. The mix contains crazy powerful tracks such as a revamped version of one of my faves GOT U and some strong features by Kingdom and Cooly G. One of my personal highlights is Ciara’s luscious vocals on the Lose My Mind freestyle sewn together with NGUZUNGUZU’s own Rec Loose from the Mirage release.
