Excuse My French Touch

Sometimes your favourite artists disappear for a while, and they come back with something you wouldn’t expect at all. That singer-songwriter you were really into disappeared for two years and came back with a tacky trance-pop album, that one obscure violinist released an over-the-top disco album and that classic hardcore punk band started making shitty nu-metal. Honestly, what’s new? When I heard the once so progressive SebastiAn was doing an OST for Romain Gavrais upcoming movie, “Notre Jour Viendra“, I pushed away the thought of new material from Akchoté’s hand immediately. I simply didn’t want to know because let’s be honest – the very few releases he’s done haven’t lived up to the expectations from the masses at all. Sampling Krzysztof Penderecki for a mere eleven minutes: a track with a subconscious message telling everyone to fuck off. I laughed and I cried at the same time when that happened to the world. Thereafter he did some productions for an album which was released three years late, and everybody cried with me.

SebastiAn has proved us wrong, however. Dry your eyes and get ready for this soundtrack because it’s a classic one. The first time I listened to it I didn’t know what was happening to me; I must admit I was a bit tired during my first listen and felt more than a little overwhelmed. Other than the track Retro, none of the tracks sound like anything I would ever think SebastiAn would be capable of producing. For some reason I always seem to think there is a big gap between electronic music and classical, but this is mumbo-jumbo & skimble-skamble. Boys Noize proved us wrong recently with his share of work for Chilly Gonzales’ Ivory Tower and SebastiAn hits the nail on the head as well. He claimed a little bit of Howard Shore’s territory and became close friends with Stephen Glass, it seems. It’s a beautiful record and it will be phenomenal to hear in the cinemas. Drama. Pianos. Crying violins. Wind instruments. Lovely!

Here are two tracks for your streaming pleasure that I really enjoyed, Dies irae and Ad Gloriam. The bonus download that’s included is a rip of Crevasse, a track that has got nothing to do with this release but which is a track everyone was psyched about… two years ago. Anyhow, I don’t know about you but I’m psyched for SebastiAn’s debut, again. My faith in the smoke monster has returned.

  1. Nobody is. EB crew refer to this track as “Untitled”. Eventually this track got a “Crevasse” stamp. The second name that surfaced for this track is the “Busy Busy Busy” title you speak of, but there are more sources referring to the track as “Crevasse”. I might as well stick with the majority until there’s official news about its name.

  2. I have the exact response to this as I did to anonymous, sry. There is no official source referring to the track as “Busy Busy Busy” for as far as I know. “Crevasse” is the title people use more commonly. That’s why I tagged it that, so more people find it when they’re looking for it on search engines or whatever. Feel free to edit the tags to “Untitled” in your iTunes but I’ll stick with this one for the moment.
