And It Feels Better Than Love

Hurts, a difficult band to love for some  people. “The Hurts sound is emotional electronic music. It’s hopeful music from a place of despair.” explains singer Theo Hutchcraft. Hopeful music from a place of despair. Hopeful music from a place of despair. Oh, okay. Now I get why their image is difficult to love for some people. You either absolutely love or hate this melodramatic, baritone, exorbitantly emotional music. And the exorbitant group of British hoi polloi behind it. Post-punk meets synth-pop. Weak vocals meet perfectly outlined instrumentals. Yet they create a sound that is really pleasing to the ears, and myself, I really enjoy them. I enjoy them more than most bands that are active right now.

Maybe I need to go back to getting a subscription to some opinionated British music magazines that would’ve told me to buy the new Hurts EP about a month and a half ago. How the ever-so-sharp TRUANTS radar overlooked a new Hurts release is beyond me, but at least here it is – Better Than Love. It’s now or never. The track is accompanied by a high budget video that’s very pleasing to the eye, and the French Jamaica have also taken the track to task. I think Hurts’ oeuvre hasn’t been anywhere near their first single Wonderful Life quality-wise but I’m not giving up yet. I won’t let go of Hurts, they’re such a wonderful band. Ohh. ?
