It’s time we revisit a firm favourite of ours who we featured last year; Erdbeerschnitzel, who in our humble opinion happened to make the best house EP of 2010 with ‘To an End‘. So now this article is going to feature another of his EP’s that was released back in December just gone, but is becoming more and more relevant as the summer months approach and the sun starts to shine on the regular. The Suave Ep.
The 4 track Ep takes off with the title track Suave, a beautiful bouncing number with synths that swirl and rise as though they have been given a life of their own and move with complete freedom yet it is all reigned in by Erd. One of the master-strokes of the track comes from the percussion as it gives it that real extra funky movement within the track, a trait not easily given to a track without it sounding forced, yet Erd manages it with ease. An effortless sounding summer groove. Next up is 360. A track that was inspired by a Theo Parrish set, is a more powerful number that hits you with the bass from the start and keeps you swaying with beautiful synths. As the track continues and gets deeper with every second that passes it’s easy to see the Parrish connection as it becomes almost hypnotic and before you know it the time has flown by and you find yourself already listening to the next track. Which in this case happens to be the last track of the Suave Ep if you buy the vinyl (but not if you buy the digital, you lucky mp3/wav chaps). Track in question is Ultimate Margot (great track name by the way) is more of a dreamy affair with wispy vocals that add a real charm to the feel and multiple layers of texture allow you to go back for more and discover the depth of a Erd production. But yet again I can’t escape those drums, boy those drums add such a groove when coupled with the soul filled bass line which is steadily becoming a trademark of a Erdbeerschniztel track. The piece de resistance comes in the form of In Their Eyes, which is a clear indication of the wide ranging talent he is. It begins in an unassuming manner, but then the vocal sample chimes out and the the build up begins and points to something special around the corner, but you can’t image how big its going to get. As the guitar shimmers with pure happiness you come to the realisation that this is a perfect jam.
Suave is so … suave. Got damn.
