These days it seems you’re no-one unless you’re at least three different someones – the slash is the name of the game. 2012 is all about being a DJ/producer/label owner/blogger/chef/world class artichoke-growing champion… You can add Scott Hansen to the list of frustratingly talented Renaissance men and women. The San Franciscan producer and designer has been making electronic music under the name of Tycho since 2002, his most recent full-length being the album “Dive”, a hot, blue-sky, disco-dabbling affair. The start of this month saw the release of an EP featuring the album’s title track and a couple of tidy little remixes. “Dive” itself is the 2am peak of a party on a beach, its pastel-coloured basslines tinged with the languid desire of a hot summer’s night. The Memoryhouse remix deepens the bassline with the grim disappointment of lost love, stretching out the vocal samples even further into ghostly wails, while the Keep Shelly In Athens adds some nervous energy with a jittery trap shuffle.

“Dive” plays loose and fast with the rules of melody, offering up some anti-chillwave that is anything but vapid.
