Truancy Compilation One

Truancy Compilation One features fourteen tracks from a mixture of both upcoming and established artists based from all corners of the world, something we consider to be an important and essential venture with our first release as it embodies our ethos on music as a blog, having talked and written about DJs and producers from all over the world.

Starting off steady and strong with fresh Canadian talent Grown Folk, the duo present us “Steady Moving”: an euphoric mixture of bleepy synths and cut up hip-hop samples, a great entrance not only to the compilation but also a great entrance in general for these new producers on the block. The Helsinki-bound producer Teeth (forthcoming 502 Recordings) takes a small vocal sample and creates layers of depth with a precise pinch of bass and up-tempo percussion in “Some”, turning the track in one of the biggest jams we heard this year yet. Third off is NGUZUNGUZU’s “Story Riddim” is a mind-boggling track that creates the closest you’ll get to a African tribe’s cover of ‘Frere Jacques’ whilst being hit by the sounds of didgeridoo-like bass. Abu Dhabi talent Darling Farah delivers five minutes of intricate drum patterns intertwined with deep soothing chord hits. A familiar name to many on the tracklisting is Sound Pellegrino’s front man Teki Latex, who teamed up with the lovely guys from LOL Boys for the compilation. In their track “Modern” they  take the lyrics from Felix Da Housecat’s infamous “Silver Screen” and give it a 2011 makeover with chilled summery synthesizers.  Brenmar’s addition to the compilation is the much anticipated “Boy U Got Me”, as heard in his XLR8R mix in sets by Brodinski, which comes to no surprise considering its smooth synths and grippingly dark vocals. Los Angeles’ Glass Actor created a positively sunny tune that could put a smile on anyone’s face with its hypnotizingly driven beat and easygoing vibes, despite its seemingly heartbroken vocals. The second producer from Helsinki appearing on the compilation, Femme en Fourrure,  aims for a deep 808 vibe with hints of acid. Brothers Chaos In The CBD have delivered us the track “Ima Do It Right”, and indeed they did Five minutes of bliss, friendly vocals and warm instrumentals. (‘Repeat item’ ticked.) Parisian talents Square Mode have crafted a song that evolves around a building synth line before dropping into an immense hands in the air finale. The young and prolific Tanka puts on his bravest bass face for an addition of pure 140 BPM club music, resulting in “Shortsighted”: a suave track with intergalactic waves and a preciously warm vocal sample to match it up. One of the greatest highlights of the compilation comes in the form of ITFW’s “Surgeon” as it stamps itself with ‘certified anthem’ of the release, Ciara’s seductive vocals are brought to life once more by one of the finest beats we’ve come across in recent memory. Grizzly/Mixpak master chef Melé delivers a track called “Pyrex Vision”, a playful track that’s all over the place in the best way possible, which will proportionally go off on the dance floor as well in your bedroom. We aren’t sure what the proper dancing etiquette will be for our final track of the compilation, as it both makes us want to dougie, cook and form a circle pit at the same time, but one thing is for sure: Brey (also known under his moniker Die Barbie Musik Kollektiv) brought us dat riddim that’s sure to make anyone hyphy enough to last another two years.

We hope you enjoy the compilation as much as we do. And although you can download the compilation for free, we’d appreciate if if you could make a small donation to the bank account we set up for this project. All proceeds will be forwarded to the Libya & Region Appeal, and will be transferred on April 30th and May 31th. After the last transition the account will be closed. Thanks a lot to everyone who made this possible, the artists, our lovely audio engineer Faisal and of course, the listeners. One love.
