Download: Benjamin Flocka

Flockaveli blessed us this week with a pretty big mixtape of crunk and trap music. I’m assuming the title, “Benjamin Flocka” is a money reference and not some strange Benjamin Button, young nigga reference. I’m always grateful for new Flocka but a number of these tracks have been around for awhile. Some without dj drops (exception being Clap which exists with even more drops on his previous tape). “Young Nigga” (we mentioned that in a Sunday’s Best a week ago) with Gucci Mane in particular leaked not even two weeks prior to this tape and tagless. That said, Benjamin Flocka is a great compliment to “Salute Me or Shoot Me 3.” The latter leaning more to the goon motivation side of things and Benjamin closer to a fuck the club up mentality.

Southside handles majority of the production here and does a great job making some menacing instrumentals. A great standout track being “Spazz Out.” Flipping an evil sample into a great club banger with a catchy hook that I’ve been stuck on for the past week. Followed directly by the semi-ridiculous crowd love song simply titled “Crowd” with one of the most simple chorus’ that only few could get away with in 2011 in an unironic fashion. Gucci may or may not be as hype as he used to be (I enjoyed Return of Mr. Zone 6, what camp does that put me in?) but Waka still sounds great and doesn’t seem intent on watering himself down. Bricksquad will be alright. So grab this, turn up your bass, and dumb the fuck out…or spazz out. BOW BOW.
