You Can Dance

Counter productivity. I end up delaying everything when my phone tells me to go do something profitable. I think this is due to the fact that I’m having a Club Mate cold turkey, a drink that a) has a really funny name b) my friends and I had all summer, and probably the reason why the Berliners have such a vibrant nightlife. It gives you such an energy boost that even a Hortaya Borzaya would be jealous of your endurance. As an example, I keep saving tracks to my bookmarks that I like. “Oh, a free Bobmo remix! Amazing, I will post this someday.” Oh, someday. I ain’t wasting no more time. Trying, trying. Of course I won’t end up posting these tracks I find, because the cheapest Club Mate near me is about four times as expensive as I’m used to. I dwell in listlessness, I feel sad, lost. Until Morgan Freeman came to me in a dream last night. He said: “Provide your people with the music. The energy will come to you, eventually. You can’t not give away these jewels to your readers or I will ban you from seeing any of my movies ever again.”

A couple of tracks at once, then. The first one being a track by Bordeaux brother Bobmo, a track of his newest EP Bring It. At first I didn’t get the message of the vocals in this track, “This is my house.”, I thought maybe it was a wink to Madness or some other joke I didn’t get but obviously it’s a wink to house vocals and the actual thing that is being said is: “This, is my house.”. His kind of house. Except the track doesn’t sound that hous-y at all: the original track is just typically Bobmo. Which isn’t a bad thing, are you kidding me? Douster gave the track a twist and added some bass and birds to it. Listen below, and there’s a fun mix on Mixcloud crafted by Bobmo here, fyt.

BOBMO – MY HOUSE (DOUSTER REMIX) (192 kbps)

I’d rather not drop too many genres in one sentence but I’ll leave you with UK Funky, dubstep and house. Find a magic definition, and then there’s Maelstrom. Together with Nantes based producer Redux he’s done an EP and released it through his own label Katorza Records. YounGun Bambounou took the track and gave it that lovely touch of cross-pollination he’s good at & definitely made it more dance-able and light-hearted. A remix by Wafa is included as well; this track too is a good listen.

REDUX AND MAELSTROM – WIDE OPEN (BAMBOUNOU REMIX) (320 kbps)

Enough French in one post! It’s now time for the  Guinean talent Lamin Fofana, a young man currently residing in Harlem, New York. A man with a moving history and a message. You might recognize his name from the Dutty Artz Recession Rap Podcast or the mix Matt Shadetek did for XLR8R last Summer. Lamin has moved on to produce music himself and it’s way promising. His image is mysterious, though: when describing his own music he quoted New York Times’ 1975 obituary for Nation of Islam founder Elijah Muhammad; “Yet, he would refer to the Mother Plane, a mysterious space ship with superior beings, giant black gods or something like that, that patrolled the universe, keeping an eye on the devil and ready to rescue Black Muslims from Armageddon.“. And yet, this track, Dance In Yr Blood, seems to connect with this quote. It fits. I’m optimistic Lamin Fofana will bring us great things in the future. His EP is out Sep 21, bring it on.
