THE HUNDRED IN THE HANDS – PIGEONS (FOALS XIII REMIX)
I’m one of those people who thoroughly enjoyed Foals‘ second studio album– maybe it’s because of the indie wave nostalgia or maybe it’s because there’s something alluring about the matured vocals that Yannis Philippakis brought forward on it, I really enjoyed it nonetheless. In that same vein, I’ve also been listening to this remix that Foals member Jack did of a track by The Hundred In The Hands. The original version of Pigeons is also enjoyable, and is set to appear on The Hundred In The Hands’ forthcoming self-titled studio album to be released on Warp Records in September. Their smooth, up-beat and tranquil sound is something to keep an eye on, especially considering their album release, but for now we have Foals’ remix to keep us satisfied.

The latest release in Top Billin’s line of work is an EP by the fresh Them Jeans called Balloons. (In case you’re wondering, no, I didn’t plan that lovely coincidence considering the remix posted above is one by Foals, it’s all irony.) A known figure in the LA club scene as a promoter and dj for Dim Mak Tuesdays, Them Jeans has had previous releases on labels CFB and Turntable Lab and his latest EP on Top Billin’ is filled with some great remixes by Camo Ufos, DJA and LOL Boys. A great chilled out release with a lot of bass to go for it!
Last but not least is an absolutely outstanding mix that Girl Unit delivered for BBC1 last week, jam-packed with both old and new beat patterns that have the power to make even the most sceptic non-believer get up and dance limitlessly. Girl Unit starts off strong with a new track by NGUZUNGUZU and effortlessly transitions into his own Shade On, then onto something that keeps the attention and exhilaration levels high– an exciting new track called Fogs off of Kingdom’s much-anticipated new That Mystic EP, set for a release on Night Slugs later this month. Really, I could go on and on about all these wonderful tracks on Girl Unit’s mix, which includes a whole lot of gems by the man himself, but in summary I’d call is a most definite must-listen. So all I really have left to say is: enjoy.
