Shadows Dance Back Up

How I love it when I look into my mailbox and find a package the size of a vinyl record. The right side of my brain is oh so excited with the new record while the left side is happy I didn’t get scammed. Exactly what happened to me this morning! I paid € 0,85 for this wonderful 1981 Herbie Hancock album called Magic Windows I found on eBay. I know..  It’s less than just about any mp3 on Beatport (which is exactly why I thought I got jimmied)! Lesson learned: browse eBay, save money.

It’s late in the afternoon when I put the needle into the groove of this record for the first time. After the usual vinyl noise, which is almost synonym to the drumroll before a magicians awesome big-bang finale, the first track kicks off with an awesome brass stab. From this instant I knew this was going to be my favorite track off the album, being a sucker for brass stabs and all. This awesome oldskool jam makes your feet shuffle and your fingers snap to the beat thanks to its perfect fusion of funk and disco. The low key guest-vocalist Sylvester is singing in really does his voice justice and brings a little R&B flavor to this jam. As a bonus we even get a never-ending bongo break at the end! What more can you ask for in an early 80’s discojam?

Ask me to give you a textbook example of disco funk and I’ll forward you to this track.
