Some things in life we can rely on as fact; they are a given, they are pure truths. Just as we know night follows day, as we know the Sun rises in the East and sets in the West, and as we know toast, without fail, always falls butter-side down – we know that California knows how to party.  With this in mind, I’d like you to turn your attention to LBCK – Long Beach City Kids, to use their full name, it is the Sabbath after all – are an exciting electronic duo who perhaps unsurprisingly hail from Long Beach, CA and have set about crafting some heavily disco-laden, French touch-esque jams for our aural pleasure. On this, the holiest of days, LBCK benevolently bestow upon us Made For Love – a lesson in low swung disco, saucy chopped up samples and an unrelenting groove that draws you in and spits you out 3 minutes later considerably more razzled than when you arrived. Ouch, that’s some baby making music right there….Made For Love, indeed – aren’t we all. Phew.

The power of celebrity. Had Diplo’s name not been attached to this, I wouldn’t have listened to it; sad, but true. And I’m very glad I did. A wonderful mix of 808 beats, epic hits, synth arpeggios and a vocal that is the epitome of loveliness, this remix has all the quirkiness you expect from Diplo’s non-club tracks, and brings a relative unknown to the table – from Montreal, Lunice. Perfect listening for a lazy Monday, or any other day when you want to hear beautiful music.

DEERHUNTER – HELICOPTER (DIPLO & LUNICE REMIX) (320 kbps)

Every now and then I go through a phase where I don’t really care how big or clever a track is, I just want something that bangs hard. One of the biggest and hardest bangers I’m feeling right now is a few months old, but I’m not sure it’s got the attention it deserves. Proper Villains is one of those acts that sounds like it should be a group but is actually just one dude. Don’t you just hate that? This track Rave Juice is a combination of about a million ideas that all come together to make it sound like the best night of your life in five minutes. It throws together 90s pianos and beats, sirens, Surkin-style vocal cutups, what I’m pretty certain is a tiny sample of Jay-Z’s laughter, slowed-down jungle beats and sped-up hip-hop kicks. It’s a powerful melange of elements that manages to bring everything together coherently without coming across as diffuse or scatter-brained. Party party party, yeah? Rave Juice is just what you need to get it all kicked off. Turbo-charged bangoids, my favourite kind.
