Push the Bottin

Perseo Records is the newborn baby-sister of disco haven Italians Do It Better (Glass Candy, Martin Vogel, Chromatics). One thing quite unusual about Perseo is that they release nothing but re-edits. No originals, no remixes. This would mean the re-edits have to be of certain quality to keep the label running. And guess what? They are! The first Perseo releases were re-edits of mainstream hits like Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Tougher Than the Rest’ (Martin Vogel – ’Tough’ – the label’s first release), Steve Miller Band’s sing-along ‘Fly Like An Eagle’ (Bottin – ’Eagle’) and some mid-90’s house edits by label boss Mike Simonetti (’That Look’).

My personal favorite artist released on this label would be up and coming producer / editor William Bottin, going under the not too far-fetched alias Bottin. Well known for his his slick Italo-inspired productions (released by labels such as Italians Do It Better, Bear Funk and Tirk records’ sister label Nang). In this case Bottin sprinkled his magic dust over Level 42’s ‘Star Child’, a cool jazz-influenced funky disco track. I’m not going to try and explain what he did with the track but I can tell you (and you have to believe me) it’s an edit worth checking out if you love some occasional Italo-disco. ‘Stork’ is the B-side of Bottin’s SMB edit ‘Eagle’ and pressed on a 12″ limited to 400 copies, never to be repressed. If you’re lucky and there are some copies left, you can buy one here.
