My House, Your House, Our House

For whatever reason, there is a particular sort of house that I think of as being “real” house. “Housey house” I sometimes label it in my libraries. Stupid, maybe, house is a big church that holds a lot of different sounds and styles. But for me, the kind of house that is deep, soulful, musical… that to me is what I think of when I think of house music.

Dennis Ferrer has been behind some absolutely huge house tracks over the last decade or so; some his own, and a frankly staggering number of remixes. I really thought I knew a fair few of his tracks – turns out I have barely scratched the surface; Ferrer has well over 200 remixes to his name, as well as an extensive back catalogue of LPs, EPs and singles.

Rooted firmly in the soulful end of house music, he has worked alongside many of the greats of house music, and is based in Union City, New Jersey. Although he has 12 years of releases under the name Dennis Ferrer, he has in fact been putting music out since 1994, under a variety of aliases – Aurasfere, Jax, Hippie Culture and Morph. His remix of Fish Go Deep – The Cure, The Cause was a huge success, and last year his own “Hey, Hey” was a Beatport #1 and a BBC Radio 1 A-listed hit, enjoying success all over the world.

His latest release is the excellent “The Red Room”, available here.

And an old favourite from his album “The World As I See It”
