I’ve just come across this album filled with a bunch of remixes of NickNack’s Dearly Departed. The original album came out a couple of months ago and, as DJ Ayres put it, “I would put this album in the same category as DJ Shadow – Endtroducing and RJD2 – Dead Ringer“. The remix album continues down that road, but also veers off in numerous directions. We’ve got the aforementioned Ayres taking Strangest Secret down wobwob dubstep drive, only to play dutty south hip-hop keys along the way, while B.Cause does his soulful tripped-out sample scratchy thing on Dearly Departed, an already gorgeously melancholic ditty. My favourite mix comes from DJ Apt One, who turns the snarling and punchy Stolid into an extended disco groove. You can get the whole album here for a minimum of 0.00 of whatever Earth dollars you use, but it’s worth more than that.
