Representing Brighton here! We’ve had a fair share of artists emerge from the buzzing sea side city, but one artist that repeatedly continues to impress me is Mumdance, with his take on blending electro, dancehall and grime all into one hot, juicy package. Brought into the limelight by Diplo after impressing him with the bootleg remix he did of Veni Vidi Vici’s Black Lips, the man has blown up immensely the past year due to some other cracking remixes and collaborations with Brodinski and High Rankin. He’s recently stated that he’s been working hard on crafting a new distinct sound which he calls ‘Kerplunk!’ and that a new EP on Mad Decent should be out this summer. Here’s a few words from Mumdance on the matter:
Kerplunk! is an idea for a new sound that I that I have been messing about with of late. I named the sound Kerplunk! because it sounds like the old school kids game when all the marbles fall out. With Kerplunk! Part One I decided to strip everything right down and do a golden era 8 bar grime track with a Kerplunk! breakdown. If you are feeling this check out a cover I did of Maxïmo Parks ‘Lets Get Clinical’ in a Kerplunk! style.
