Flightless Seabirds: Incarcerated

First things first: I’m Jodie and I’m new to the merry band of Truancy scoundrels. If it’s alright with you, I’ll pop up on here from time to time and perhaps introduce you to some new musical nuggets of fried gold from the world of disco/house/synth/electro/whatever, or geek out about other musical  titbits every now and again. Thats fine, you say? Lovely. Then I shall proceed.

The title of this little musing might sound like the name of a new ornithological reality game show offering to plug the vast chasm Big Brother has supposedly left in our closeted little lives, and indeed before you attempt to inconspicuously edge away to register a strongly worded complaint to the local animal protection unit – now stop; collaborate and listen.  For those of you currently untouched by this synth-pop New Yorker’s deluxe electro and bouncing riffs, I can reveal that my whimsical heading in fact refers to Penguin Prison, the eccentrically-titled gentleman fast becoming the remixer du jour churning out jam-hot re-works and injecting welcome sass into the singles of stellar pop scenesters Ellie Goulding, Jack Peñate and Marina & The Diamonds. I can’t get enough of this guy. If, like me, you have a lot of time for an upbeat synth-pop outfit…nay, you positively gorge on the ever-expanding smorgasboard of sonic electronica erupting onto the dance music scene seemingly on a daily basis – this could be a big moment. Take it in, enjoy.  As you chew your way through PP’s small but beautifully formed back catalogue, there is a good chance you’re about to have a bit of melty goosebump scenario a’ happening. ‘S’ok, we’re all friends, no shame here. I’m not gonna lie, I’m excited for you.

Already with a clutch of superb singles under his belt (A Funny Thing in particular is irresistibly delicious), as well as stealing the show on the hipster mainstay Kitsuné Maison Compilation 9 with Animal Animal, he has more recently been weaving his electro wizardry through a re-rub of Kylie’s Get Outta My Way. This week a new slice of buoyant lusciousness has emerged in the shape of a remix of Kimbra’s Settle Down which has got me all fizzy too. The original track and video are well worth checking out, but PP, with this remix you are really spoiling us; this fella is about to take flight. One more thing – if this really was about a new abstract ornithological reality game show, I daresay it would be hosted by Davina Macaw. Arf arf. ?
