Warning: Yelawolf’s brand new Trunk Muzik mix tape may result in blown speakers, excessive sex, drank beers, fights, shot gun sales, police chases and new Alabama stereotypes. Yelawolf might be white, slim and heavily tattooed and looks like he could be the singer of a hardcore punk band signed under Bridge Nine, but is the new promise of the hip-hop world. Even when I’m writing this at a packed lunchroom, I’m warily nodding my head to Trunk Muzik – packed with raw beats, wonderful lyrics and 808s. Who would’ve thought rednecks could rap? Yelawolf has a hilarious range of raps like Box Chevy Pt. 1, 2 and 3 which are tracks about his beloved Chevrolet, alternated with seriously dope tracks such as Good To Go versus half of the Underground Kingz Bun B, and his collaboration with Juelz Santana (posted above), a track that’s heavily influenced by one of my favourite tracks by Bob Dylan ever – Subterranean Homesick Blues. He also does a hook for Slim Thug on this track and I must say that I’m quite fascinated by his accent and voice. As well as his nose ring, he must be the only rapper next to Tupac who can work one, so fierce!

A lot of people are skeptical towards Yelawolf for the stereotypical reasons I just listed but he proved that he’s got a lot in store for us. He keeps the listener engaged with his lyrics and he has the hottest productions. An important thing for me is that he keeps his sense of humor, par example Love Is Not Enough is a complete Devin The Dude pisstake. One that works surprisingly well. He’s been around for a while, his earlier mixtapes Stereo: A Hip-Hop Tribute To Classic Rock and Ball Of Flames: The Ballad Of Slick E. Bobby are certainly worth a listen and he has an album out called CreekWater and an EP with hilarious tracks about his hometown. Give them a listen and you better do as I say, punk! It won’t take too long before maestro spitter Yelawolf will take over your radio stations as he’s getting into the studio with N.E.R.D. this Spring and is now supporting my man Wiz Khalifa on his USA tour. Don’t miss this if you’re an Americaland citizen or I will laugh at you forever!
