Premiere: Samrai & Platt – Tease Me ft. Kemikal

If you hadn’t guessed by now, we’re big fans of the Swing Ting crew here at Truants. Samrai & Platt have already provided us with a Truancy Volume and a premiere of their track “Bad Riddim“, and Florentino served us up his edit of “Get You Alone” last year. In 2015, Swing Ting fully established their label arm to run alongside their monthly clubnight in Manchester, putting out five releases including their first LP – Madd Again!’s MaddTing Vol. 1. Their first delivery of 2016 comes in the form of “Tease Me”, where they link up with Kingston’s Equiknoxx crew: vocals provided by Kemikal, with Puppy Disco remixing the single. You might remember the original as the closer to Truancy Volume 127.

We’re very lucky to have both tracks for you to listen to here first. “Tease Me” is a kicked-back groove with a gorgeous garage-y bassline and airy keys, which spins back and pops off enough to make anyone wish for the long summer evenings to roll round again. It’s the perfect accompaniment for Kemikal, whose rhymes hype it up just enough to make it perfect for the dancefloor. On the flip, Puppy Disco deftly crafts a carefree vibe, repitching Kemikal’s vocals alongside vocoders and organs to wash away any February blues you might have.

We also asked all the crew involved how the tracks and the Manchester/Kingston link up came about – here’s what they had to say:

Tease Me: Samrai & Platt’s account
“We first connected in the summer of 2014 with Gavsborg aka Jamrock Spacegoat and begun passing music back forth. Fox recorded vocals for Equiknoxx and Kemikal for us. After hearing the amazing vocal back we modified the riddim to complement the wicked style and fashion. Having remixed Busy Signal’s “Tamara” for the crew we thought it’d make sense for Puppy Disco to flip the OG… This release is the first of many more appearances scheduled for the Kingston click on our imprint.”

Tease Me: Kemikal’s account
“The first time I hear the riddim deh, jah know I say it da bomb! Mi just start work same time, no itchin and start pencil up di ting deh, and mi never know seh yo the tune a bad star mi swear. When I start listening to it back and I heard di mix I say jah know! did I really go so hard? spppplash”

Tease Me: Puppy Disco’s account
“On Earth, two good friends of mine, Munchy and Gavsborg combined a Crocodile and a Dog together and created the “Crog”. Now just around the corner from the 36th Chamber lies the 193rd dimension where Kemikal and Swing combine vocals and music to create “Tease Me”.  The backing track, which I really believe was originally a part of Raymond Scott’s Manhattan Research Project, provides the perfect bed for Kemikal to narrate his escapades of East, West & South Kingston. I & I Puppy Disco, was more than ready to step forward and handle remix duties.”
