As David Brent would say, a good idea is a good idea forever. This Jamie Grind remix of Hackman‘s “More Than Ever” first surfaced a little over a year ago, but Mr Grind has just been so kind as to give it away for free. Sounding as fresh as did when it first appeared, this remix is one to savour. While the original is a quietly pulsating bass-driven number, Grind takes it up a notch, jacking up the tempo a bit further and adding a darker chord progression to give a moodierm more frantic feel to the pitched-up-beyond-belief sample that drives the track. The strings that perforate the track come into their own as the sublime percussion drops off for a minute-long breakdown. Modulating synth lines dance over syncopated stabs and ever-growing layers upon layers of percussive accompaniment. This build-up leads us back to that opening chord progression, slowly drifting off to a blissful, beatless outro. I can imagine myself looping that outro ad infinitum and planning on bringing in a new set of beats and then never bothering because it’s just that sweet.
