Recommended: Markus Suckut – M EP

Lucy’s Stroboscopic Artefacts has put us on to a lot of new music since its establishment in 2009. From the sounds of Xhin, Go Hiyama and Dadub to Lucy’s own productions, the label is unparalleled in releasing some of the finest techno records from the deeper side of the spectrum. Whilst often reaching points of pure experimentation, Lucy has managed, and wonderfully we might add, in creating a balance of sheer innovation and accessibility. One of the more younger but no doubt talented artists who Lucy picked up to release on his label is German producer Markus Suckut. With releases on labels such as Len Faki’s Figure SPC and Daniela Stickroth’s Lineal Records, Suckut has done incredibly well in the space of two years since his first outing. Having been born and grown up in a small quiet city called Velbert-Langenberg surrounded by nature, Suckut states that the outdoors, its moods and the people that surround him are what influences him the most. This can be translated into the ten minute tracks he often produces and the four to five hour sets he prefers doing, aiming in wanting to take the listeners and crowds through a journey.

His newest release sees a welcome return to Len Faki’s Figure SPC. Instead of EP names, Len Faki chooses to give each record a simple letter going up in alphabetical order, with this release reaching halfway through the alphabet at ‘M’. Ranging from 126 BPM t0 130BPM, we get three relentless techno bombs of the highest calibre. Opening the release is “Hunt”, a track which commences by thumping four by four kicks and a bassline of gargantuan proportions that, with any luck, should do as much damage to crowds worldwide as Levon Vincent’s Woman Is The Devil” did. The raw kick drum action continues with ‘Section’ but utilises a more playful riff to progress the track over the six minute duration. Last track on the release ‘Scent’ opts for a brooding dub chords and long atmospheric breakdowns before breaking into an unrelenting groove. By all means a record to pick up.
