After a 11 year hiatus from R&S Records the ‘godfather of techno’ Juan Atkins returned along with Mark Taylor, DJ Skurge and Mike Banks for a ‘comeback’ EP last year under the infamous moniker Model 500. Having been out of the game for song, you could say that bars were set pretty dam high. So high that people were calling this an important event in terms of releases. Not that I didn’t agree! If it wasn’t for Juan Atkins techno might have been birthed from somewhere else than Detroit. Somewhere like Chad for instance. Who knows. Anyway the guys lived up to those expectations and delivered some funky electro techno that proves those ‘old’ guys still got the shit.

I dont know about you but I find it pretty funny (and clever) that R&S chose some of their youngest and most promising producers on their roster to remix some of the oldest guys on their label. At only 20 years old Space Dimension Controller may be lacking on time on the planet but he still demonstrates a huge knowledge and passion for music that clearly shines through in his music and production skill. With 2 EP’s released last year and an album on the horizon on R&S the man tides us over with an electro funk fuelled trip into dreamy tinged chords and layers of analogue sounds. Space Dimension Controller was obviously sent back in time to remix this track. Bullion, hot off the press with his ‘non LP’ yet sort of like an LP on Young Turks, completely manages to change the dynamics of the track yet still keep that Model 500 vibe intact.
