Applepips’ Orphan101 EP

Applepips has come long a long way since being launced in 2009 by Bristol based Appleblim and has arguably been on the forefront of  forward thinking music exploring areas between Dubstep, Garage, House and Techno. A label which doesn’t like to use the word ‘genre’ but instead read between the lines and push the very boundaries of what we call music. A label with a super impressive back catalog consisting of Martyn, Ramadanman, Brackles, Greena, Instra:Mental and many many more, all highly essential. The newest release on the label comes from another up and coming Bristol head going by the name of Orphan101 making a mixture of dubstep based minimal techno whose previous releases on labels such as Saigan Recordings and his own label Decarhythm have been heavily sought after. His Applepips release consisting of two tracks Propa and Disemble look to do exactly the same. On the A side, Propa is the more subdued track with a simple syncopated pattern with radar bleeps throughout lending for a more after hours set party. It’s the B side however that I can imagine will cause a fuss over the coming weeks though with its edgy percussion and futuristic vocal stabs. I totally agree with Boomkat when they say it’s one of the best records Applepips have released so far. These need to be heard out to in order to appreciate them fully. Get the release here.
