Raphael Grau, who is better known under the abbreviation of his name, Raph, is a DJ based in Brussels. He’s a part of the Forma.T crew, being one of their resident DJs, and recently came back from a three months internship in Paris where he worked at the much adored Institubes/Sound Pellegrino office. As we all know the latter is recently killing it with a lot of solid releases but so is the Forma.T organisation who recently threw a party for their four years anniversary. Raph played alongside Surkin, L-Vis 1990 and DJ Funk (who is still alive) amongst others. It’s safe to say that Raph already has had a great year, and we’re pretty sure it won’t take him too long until he attacks the electronic music scene in the rear and enchants us all with his knowledge of music and artistry of mixing. To give you a small preview on what Raph is all about, we serve you TRUANCY VOLUME 6: RAPH, a mix made by the man himself.
Raph notes that he’s influenced by the birth of the Sound Pellegrino style, and Teki Latex‘s wise advices. Renaissance Man are quite an example to him too, as well as other music that has just that little twist to it. When it comes to other DJs, the legendary Villalobos would be the man that has changed Raph’s views. Once seen a four hours set at Fuse Club, Raph was captured by the special atmosphere at his set and the entire swing of the tune selection. He’s one of the reasons why Raph nowadays prefers to play tech-house, techno or general music with a house-y vibe to it and now likes to introduce this compartment of electronic music to the younger kids who come to the Forma.T parties. No pretension but good vibrations instead to bring that extra little touch to the timely music scene. One other artist that supports Raph is the charming Brodinski, and the love is mutual. Raph states Brodinski to be a perfect example of throwing together different genres and techno music in a way that works, and brings forward a new term: The Brodi Effect. We all know we parttake in this new phenomenon – Brodinski, who’s always one step ahead of everyone, drops an exclusive and everyone is all over it, awaiting the disappointment of not being able to get their hands on it for another two months. Nevertheless, Brodinski is a big influence to Raph. Raph has launched a remix for Steve Angello in the past, which got support from Momma’s Boy and Zombie Disco Squad amongst others. He recently got back to producing and will reveal the exciting news about his new remix soon, so keep a close eye on this man.
Back to TRUANCY VOLUME 6: RAPH. Raph playlisted everyone’s number one from the recent BNR sampler, Tellyfoam by Jan Driver and Yolanda Be Cool’s We No Speak Americano next to Ben Clock’s Red Alert, which is a crazy and loud track focusing on percussion, alongside the more old-school/big room vibes of Sebastien Leger. The ‘instrumentalist German minimal techno’ side that Raph digs is present in the track that’s done by Hanne & Lore and there are also a lot of guitars thrown in there to show his love for the more tech-y and gypsy side of the electronic spectrum. This, dear readers, is Raphael Grau. Don’t sleep on this!
