“Sunday clears away the rust of the whole week.” I’m unashamedly trying to put another Irishman on the map here, Dublin-based DJ/producer/promoter/renaissance man Frankie Grimes. Yes, that’s his real name, yet unlike his unfortunate namesake in The Simpsons, everything seems to be going his way right now. The young student of History is a resident in a couple of different clubs across Dublin, runs his own music/art/culture night called Forward/Slash, and on top of all this is making a name for himself as a producer while he’s at it. He’s experimented with noisey post-trance, he’s done Moombahton, he’s tackled Teki Latex, and now he’s made a track that’s sort of a groovy IDM-inflected number. Ghostly vocal chords, bouncy synths and these crackling on-beat stabs, it’s as if Portishead turned Machine Gun into a down-tempo house track for an Ibiza compilation. Can you imagine a world where that would be a bad thing? No, me either.

FRANKIE GRIMES – ARETÉ (320kbps)

One of the best things to hit the internet this week has undoubtedly been the remix album of Mansions On The Moon presented by DJ Benzi and Diplolz. Even though the entire mixtape reads like a bedtime story and is best listened to in its entirety, there’s one track that (sub)consciously gets the repeat treatment and that’s the Gabe Niles remix of Coldwater. Accompanied by Ced Hughes‘ effortless verses that resemble some kind of hybrid between the rhythm of Lupe Fiasco and the Wiz Khalifa’s swagger, this remix is a perfect audial namesake to the completely ethereal album that is Paradise Falls.

I know I posted a Club Cheval remix on the last Sundays Best but Panteros666’s new remix of Oxford based artist Chad Valley is a little bit too good to not post. Keeping to the psychedelic roots of the original his version is a journey through some electrifying synth work, amazingly intertwined with the vocals of the original, that has made my daily bus rides a more pleasurable experience than usual. Pure, mad vibes on this one. Look out for Panteros666’s debut EP on Sound Pellegrino in the near future. If its anything like this were going to be in for something very special indeed!

CHAD VALLEY – UP & DOWN (PANTEROS 666 REMIX) (320 kbps)

As I’m sure you’re all too aware its Halloween, and in suitably spooky and slightly clichéd, predictable style, I’ve just realised my offering this Sunday is themed as such. Hopefully you’ll forgive the obvious motif when you hear this remix of Holy Ghost!’s Static On The Wire by RAC. Holy Ghost! are often referred to as ‘everyone’s favourite new band’ and you can appreciate why – synth-heavy pop this well executed is never going to have to work too hard for my affections and this remix remains true to form. I like the story and romanticism behind this track also, lovesick fool that I am. RAC have transformed the song into a suitably ethereal affair and those filtered, haunting vocals dripping with yearning for loves afar immediately tug at the heartstrings. See, not very scary was it?

HOLY GHOST! – STATIC ON THE WIRE (RAC REMIX) (192 kbps)

Before early twenties and late-teenage girls with rainbow wigs dressed in tight-fitted butt-padded leather pants take over this town of musical drama and chant “Rah rah, like a dungeon dragon” in a cult-like manner as they build shrines to worship the barbie-goddess that is Nicki Minaj, I’d just like to take a minute to shut up, dude and take a minute to pay some original respects. Yes yes y’all, that is all.
