Truancy Volume 13: Sam Tiba

Hailing from Roubaix, the Detroit of France, and being proud of his roots the now Paris-based producer and DJ SAM TIBA holds a strong preference towards all things ghetto. These environs are clearly to be found back in his music. His bass-driven and high-powered tracks are set to break down many a man’s integumentary system. Whether it be his remixes for the likes of GTO (“Ghetto Technicians Officiales”), or one half of Slap & Dash Mu-Gen (which will get a release on Scattermusic soon) his upshot is sharp and lively. Up to now Sam’s most remarkable tune must’ve been his first one named Barbie Weed – a track that gained mad support by the likes of Toddla T, Bok Bok and Sinden amongst other producers who pertain the crème de la crème of the contemporary electronic music scene. Sam makes up one fourth of the Club Cheval collective as well, where he sporadically teams up with boys Canblaster, Myd and Bison – they have one official release to their name up until now which was released on the Finnish label Top Billin’, aka the same release that held Barbie Weed.

This very same Norse label will be releasing a single from S. Tibba with Spoek Mathambo in the near future. He’s also crafted a track with Club Cheval comrade Myd that will appear on the upcoming Scion x Sound Pellegrino compilation. Next to this he’s busy putting out music with some fresh French artists whose names will be revealed in the near future, as to not jinx things. But trust me when I tell you it will be good. Watch Sam Tiba go and you’ll see where he eventually ends up…

Now that you know that the boy can produce, there is another point to prove. He also knows how he has to do with the decks, described by his management as melting B-More and Jamaican riddims and easily shifting between a 70 BPM differences in his live shows. His main target is to get the spectators to shake their booty, and all will be tip-top. His holding in the Club Cheval’s Valentine Mix showed us that Sam Tiba has a good knowledge of corny and saccharine tracks. With TRUANCY VOLUME 13: SAM TIBA he’s just stating the obvious. The man is all about good music and smooth mixing – or rather, as he says himself, he’s about whatever. Whatever, someone providing us exclusives on this level and ending their mix with the full length of Lil Wayne’s Me And My Drank, thus having Weezy cover 1/7 of the mix, deserves everlasting love.
