Don’t you just love those grinding technoid tracks that sound like gurgling machines that are trying to somehow make contact with us inferior beings as we reach for the lasers on the dancefloor? Okay, so maybe that’s not the best way for me to start off my TRUANTS career, but I guess it’s a bit late for that. Swedish electronic noise master Style of Eye has been moving beyond the realms of simple club bangers lately, doing as he has some insane collaborations with the likes of Slagsmålsklubben and Magnus The Magnus. The latter, which will be released this week exclusively on Beatport, has been remixed by another Swedish producer named Tony Senghore. To be perfectly honest I’d never heard of him before he got a lot of his attention for his remixes of Major Lazer and Brodinski earlier on this year, but he’s been making music since the mid-90s. My bad.
This, for me anyway, is the best thing I’ve heard from him, going wild with layers upon layers of gurgling basslines and swirling, undulating synths, all built over a deceptively light beat – it’s not one that’s going to stomp through your core, but everything on top of it will more than likely melt your brain, so any harder a beat would be far too much. Either that or I’m getting old. Early on there’s what almost sounds like a simple playground sing-song theme, giving way to that almost industrial, grinding set of sounds drifting up and down across the track. Then it all wraps up with a descending line under what sounds like an alarm clock, beeping away and picking at what’s left of your brain, the heavy truck backing up over the dancefloor. Antidote is out on the 8th of October. Nightmare dance music, killing it in 2010.
