Slowly but surely everyone is recovering from their December comas. Alas, a quick summary of 2010. UK Funky became a name for everything with bass and a touch of house, and people started labeling music “future-garage” and “post-dubstep”. I’m not even sure if I want to continue running Truants anymore if this continues. Lest we forget the wonderful giveaways that happened over the last month either; a good ending to a good year for good music. A couple of giveaways have been posted on here already, such as the Footcrab VIP and the T&A Records giveaway, but we still need some time to catch up with all the lovely things that were handed out over the last month.
Out of the dozens of giveaways that happened last month my favorite treat is undoubtedly Skream’s last edition of his Freeizm series (ever). I do love Outside The Box and Magnetic Man to bits, but I’m still playing his older and deeper tracks way more often – and oh boy, when I saw the track listing of this package of thirteen “old stuff, lost dubs and some new stuff” I almost died. There are a lot of old tracks in there that I wanted for quite a bit (“Krazy Snares”/”Lightning VIP”) alongside some lovely newer material (“Commercial SellOut”/”Emotional Shizzle”). This compilation carries back his darker touch, and anyone claiming that Skream ‘isn’t good anymore’ can gtfo. I have nothing more to say.
