Introduction: Amadeus Records

Whilst the words ‘new label’ are often met with a grain of salt these days, there’s the select few that manage to breeze past that big initial hurdle and capture that all important attention from listeners. New label Amadeus Records, a sister imprint to Southern Californian blog/label Rebel Magazine, is one to not only have successfully sparked our interests but the interests of many others too. Whilst the music previously released on Rebel Magazine could be said to have taken a more experimental and varied approach to electronic music, Amadeus Records seems to have things deeply rooted in simmering 4×4 action. I think it’s important however to stress that with such musically knowledgeable people at the helms of the label, keeping the music interesting and varied will no doubt be a major priority for future releases.

The first release on Amadeus Records, which was released a couple of weeks back, was a debut solo release by Chicago based producer Savile. Having previously featured him on Truants a couple of times before, the man has been steadily refining his style and picking up huge support along the way. His work in collaboration with fellow producer Olin has especially seen great feedback from the likes of Soul Clap, Jeff K, Ame, Axel Boman and Adam Port to name a few. His Amadeus release titled the “Being” EP consists of three originals and a remix by Leeds producer Youandewan. Title track “Being” takes a classic Smokey Robinson track and effortlessly works the repeated vocal samples into a finely tuned house number. “Smiling Faces” follows suit by taking  the vocals of an old Motown record and combining them with some progressive synth work that slowly escalates with astonishing euphoria. The last original track on the EP called “Fun World” also uses vocal speech to set the tone but focuses more on a series of atmospheric pads and synths to create a hypnotising groove. Youandewan delivers in full force with a remix of “Being” and the Amadeus Records crew compliment that with an on par “In-House Mix” which you can download for free.

Savile – Being (Amadeus ‘In-House’ Mix) by Amadeus Records

The next release on Amadeus Records which is set to drop this Monday is by a producer based in the Midlands called Tomas Rubeck who, in similar lead to Savile, will drop an EP consisting of three originals and one remix by Lawrence Black. Titled the “Glass Plates” EP, the tracks take to the more industrial and experimental side of the Techno spectrum whilst still remaining dance floor friendly. However tracks such as “Latitude” show off Rubeck’s more creative and willing to experiment outlook on production. Four minutes of filtered pads and ambient drones encompass a steady breather to the two groovers before and after on the EP. Lawrence Black, who seems to be a staple figure in the Amadeus headquarters, turns the original chord progression on “Glass Plates” into a more hands-in-the-air affair. To end on a quote by Rubeck himself describing his creative process, he states that “for me, music that inherits a deeper meaning and soul has the greater power to induce a wider spectrum of emotions in a person, which in turn provokes a deeper thought process on the world around you, that’s a nice place to be.” That does indeed sound like a nice place to be, Rubeck.
