Hi Tom may not be a name a lot of our readers know immediately off the bat but he’s fast becoming one of our favourite DJs and producers. Residing in Trondheim, Norway, he joins a long list of producers and collectives such as Drippin, Cashmere Cat, Niilas, Lido and KOSO, all making R&B leaning club music with gentle pop sensibilities. Also from Norway are Henrik The Artist, DJ Karaoke and Torjus, who along with himself make up the Norwegian four piece and live club act, Rytmeklubben. Think of a more Nordic version of Club Cheval and you’re almost there. Having formed together after a mixtape idea involving producers from Norway turned into a live act project to play those productions, the group soon found themselves exploring more club-orientated sounds as their own solo productions also kicked off. Inspired by a local but now defunct club called SUPA and a night called Raw Juice, headed by Eirik Tillerli and Alexander Nerayo, they slowly drifted into DJ territory. Having flown in many Truants’ favourites such as Eclair Fifi, DJ Slow and Dubbel Dutch, they’ve since become close friends with the Raw Juice guys and consolidated Rytmeklubben and Raw Juice as a club night together.
As bookings for their live show flew in around the festival circuit in Noway, their own solo productions gathered attention. A penchant for remixing and doing edits of R&B and rap anthems from people such as Usher, Tinashe, Migos, Rihanna and Justin Bieber, Hi Tom obviously struck a chord with us at Truants. Having also lent his productions abilities to Cosmic Midnight, Thast and Yung Skrtt as well as contributing to Activia Benz’s I Love Singles Club series, we thought we’d approach him for a Truancy Volume. What he’s delivered is 42 tracks in just under an hour spanning all amalgamations of contemporary club music and a host of fresh Hi Tom edits. Fans of the Rook Milo and Ryan Hemsworth mixes from a couple of years back should be all over this one.
