Same Channel, Same Time

I don’t know how they did it but Marcus Price and Carli (the latter also being known of Staygold, Savage Skulls and Basutbudet) delivered an EP that’s bigger than life. Their EP Mat Bira Kvinnor Weed (Out on Palms Out now, to be fully streamed here) is literally so good it made me want to send a letter to the Queen to seduce her to change the national anthem to Mat, Bira, Kvinnor, Weed. I don’t know how to describe this track, even. It’s super nasty and has a raggamuffin riddim: it sounds robotic, magical and superfly. There are a lot of people you respect who are with me on this one. I could quote them on what they said about this EP but I’m not going to. The tracks speak for themselves, and so does the hilarious video. One thing I’ve learned is that I never want to try smörgåstårt and that this is truly one of the most exciting tracks for me out there at the moment, as well as the included Kingdom remix. I would pick this remix to be my favourite one of the EP if it weren’t for similarly brilliant remixes by Bok Bok, Dubbel Dutch, Girl Unit and more. Woah!

Secondly, as most of you will probably know, the hotly anticipated Discobelle compilation hit online music retailers yesterday. We are lucky enough to be giving away two stunning remixes of one of the featured tracks Cannibalistic by Expendable Youth. Having really enjoyed the original mix I had high expectations for both remixes. American producers LOL Boys caught my eye a while back with their mix for Mixpak which was in every way fantastic! Their remix takes you through a percussive journey; huge driving off-beats dropping into the original bouncing synths makes this version my favourite of the two. Its really nice to hear that the LOL Boys did something interesting with the track, there are really cool shifts in energy that happen throughout that make this a really enjoyable listen. The Samo Sound Boy remix is a track made for peak hours dancing! I’m a real sucker for anything with Dutch synths and chanting, so this song ticks many boxes in my ‘would play out’ list. I really enjoyed the lazy bass line that sits behind the lead synth that will no doubt sound huge on a club sound-system.

The crispy analog tunes of our Miami-based friend Plastic Fang are something that have been really leaping out lately. The 22-year-old has defrosted the sound of prominent yet clean basslines, and the sound of an actual drum kit and a tangible guitar without losing rhytmical aspects.  The Curse is an easygoing, straight-forward and old-school track – the way we like it.

Beataucue have just landed their first EP, too. Surely none of you have missed the remixes these Caeners did of Major Lazer, Peanuts Club, Solo and so on to name a few. This EP goes by the name of Cha Cha Cha and has just been released on Kitsuné. To celebrate this here’s a lil’ mix they did in honour of the release and in my opinion the most outstanding track of the package:  Bus.
