The second weekend of March marks the return of the Bugged Out Weekender and this year there’s even more reason to celebrate as one of Britain’s best loved clubbing institutions turns twenty. To help celebrate such an occasion, the Bugged Out crew have invited some of the best selectors about to join the party at Pontins Holiday Park. Expect candles, cake and lots of first rate music. One could easily feel overwhelmed when looking at the lineup; such is the calibre of the talent assembled. To help you navigate your way around such a stacked bill we’ve compiled a list of the artists we’re most excited about seeing.
FRIDAY: Friday sees the weekender kick off as it means to go on. Dixon certainly has many strings to his bow. Not content with co-running the highly regarded Innervisions alongside Âme, the Berlin resident also owns a bakery and intermittently turns his hand to music production. Despite this, it’s his DJing upon which his reputation has been built. with his deeply melodic and soulful approach making him a favourite at world renowned clubs such as Panorama Bar, Tresor and Space. The biggest draw for us is Todd Terje, whose appearance marks the UK debut of his live show. The strength of his colourful disco-tinged back catalogue means some truly euphoric dancefloor moments are no doubt in store.
SATURDAY: DJ EZ is a man who needs little introduction. Those who’ve watched his Boiler Rooms, listened to his Pure Garage CDs or seen him tear up a dancefloor at any point over the past twenty years will assure you that his reputation for technical wizardry is fully warranted. There’s a reason Oneman cites him as one of his favourite DJs. Expect to hear anthems you all know mixed in a way that keeps you guessing. New Jersey house don Kerri Chandler – a recent Truants interviewee – is of similar pedigree. From his beginnings on Express Records to his recent releases, Chandler’s music possesses a consistency of quality which is much envied but rarely matched. Despite this it’s his skill as a selector and expertise at working the floor which really makes Chandler’s set so essential. Elsewhere Ten Walls – responsible for one of our favourite release last year – will be on hand to perform a special live set.
SUNDAY: Following up on the previous days performances could well be a thankless task in lesser hands but the Bugged Out team have managed to produce a Sunday bill equally saturated with talent. Fresh from their recent collaboration together, Boddika and Joy Orbison will be making the trip to Pontins. Boddika is renowned for delivering no-holds-barred sets of abrasive techno while Joy O tends to oscillate through a wider range of sounds and tempos. His sets may ebb and flow yet rarely do they waiver in quality. Carl Craig will be flying in from across the Atlantic to round off the bill. The Detroit icon boasts more classics than you can shake a stick at but he has always been one to encompass new sounds into his arsenal – not one to miss.
