The North-London based Eglo Records imprint, which is ran by Rinse presenter Alexander Nut and producer Floating Points, has had the steady habit of releasing a unique soulful hybrid of smooth house, hip-hop, dubstep and many other influences from the very beginning of their label two years ago. Setting everything in motion with two releases from Floating Points himself, kicking off with the “For You” 7” which was followed by his much sought after “Vacuum EP”, they started putting out music by other astonishing artists such as Fatima, FunkinEven and Mizz Beats as well. Arp 101, a reoccurring name in their catalogue, is responsible for the most recent Eglo Records delivery. The man behind this name is an eminent artist in the D&B scene under a different moniker, but the sounds he make as Arp 101 are a world apart from the music he’s known for in some circles. It could be described as incredibly uplifting down-beat electro-funk, drifting through galaxies far from here. With two releases for Eglo under his belt (“Dead Leaf” and “Flush”), he released a diverse third one this week named “U / Groove”. The highlight of this release is without a doubt the track “U”, which is one of the best songs we’ve heard in a while. The vocoded vocals, almost comatose dancing synths and composed drum programming make for a lovely galactic slow-burner that as much makes you want to move as go on a cosmic wander. Stream the track below and listen to the rest of his release here, and give his collaboration with Om Unit, “Dr. Funkenstein”, a listen here. Bliss.
