I never blog about things I don’t like, but I sure as hell do tweet about them. So I’m going to make a conscious effort this year to tweet less about annoying people in the street, stupid TV shows, ridiculous ads and ridiculous Daily Mail stories. Even though I’ve already broken that by ragging on that silly C4 Famous and Fearless show. D’oh. Positivity, woo yeah, I’m more positive than you. On that note, may my first TRUANTS post of the year be something earth-shatteringly positive. (How many times can I use the word positive in this intro?)
Spontaneous Rhythm appeared like a bolt from heaven last year, young guys getting together, making and releasing music for our pleasure. What could be better? The latest release, Cutoff!CutOff!’s Sing EP (out TODAY) is, like track two on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, gorgeous. What I really want for this year is to stop using silly words to describe music, maybe get some new ones that really make sense, but you know what Laurie Anderson would say. What really gets me about the two original tracks, Sing and T is to N, is the bassline. The productions as a whole are somewhere in the general field of that Burial-esque choppy skittery beats and mournful lingering piano lines, but these basslines remind me as much of Sasha as Mr Bevan. See here for details. There are also remixes from Polymath and DangerDAN, more young dudes, who turn the future garage/step/what Sing into emotive 4/4 techno night closers.
You can buy this lil’ baby at Amazon (US/UK) and iTunes (UK), but have a listen to T is To N below, and previews of the rest over here.

Great track. Spontaneous Rhythm are off to a great start.
