When Andrea Starosse and Julien Salman met at a Renaissance Man gig, it was a match made in heaven. The two men from Reims decided to create music together which resulted in their project called Art Nouveau (not a reference to the art movement but it was chosen for its meaning and the sweet ring to it). Although they had only been producing together for a a very short period of time they didn’t restrain from sending their tracks out to Yolanda Be Cool who digged it straight away and a surprise awaited in their inboxes: The Australians were happy to release their tunes through Sweat It Out!. So it happened.
Art Nouveau claims to be influenced by all kinds of dance music. Obviously Renaissance Man’s tunes play a big part in the creative process of making new fresh house tracks, but both Andreas and Julien are also inspired by artists such as Tomski, Sound Pellegrino, Made to Play, YounGunz and lots of others that, to their own words, do nice stuff and sound refreshing. When they think outside of the electronic box they enjoy Zomby, The Very Best, Flying Lotus, Lindström, Kasper Björke and classical music from time to time. World influence is also playing a part in the Reimisian’ own productions. Their tracks are created using Logic Pro and a lot of virtual instruments and components from native instruments. “For each sound, we always have an idea that we try to develop something around in order to create a universe that will make the listener travel during six to seven minutes,” they say. After all, they consider music for sharing and nothing makes them happier than people liking their productions – With positive feedback and useful advice from Brodinski, and being playlisted in Teki Latex and Orgasmic’s January chart, things couldn’t look brighter for them. What we can expect on the short run from Art Nouveau will be a surprise to us as it is to them, but with ambitions like playing out worldwide, collaborations with a lot of artists that do different styles of music and releases on different labels I can assure you it won’t be long for Art Nouveau to take over the planet – Truancy Mixtape Volume 5 will be one these very steps, and one we’re very proud to introduce to you!
The two have combined their powers in a sweet fifty minute mix, combining twelve songs varying from Heinrichs & Hirtenfellner’s easy going track Down to a more danceable track by Sandy Huner. It’s a perfectly built up minimal pearl that is bound to keep you interested and you can download it within a week, until then you can stream it from Mixcloud. We’d like to thank our friend Lewis Wilde from AO-AO for helping us out with this article, thank you!
