Sunday is the only day that somehow justifies all of our procrastinating, postponing and lazing around because of the simple excuse that we need that one day per week to rejuvenate entirely. TRUANTS would never think of depriving you of that freedom from activity, but we’d love to pepper up the resting process if you’d let us. Here’s another edition of Sunday’s Best with some high-powered tunes that will compensate for your own lack of energy! To start off, we present you with a little Sunday Challenge –  We defy you to not get a bit of a bounce on to this first track. Ever the architect extraordinaire of quality house music positively brimming with hooks and loops to satisfy dancefloors and house aficionados alike, Riva Starr rolls in hard on a sample-led disco tip (just those words alone fizz me up no end) on this, his Dub Cut version of Lauren Pritchard’s Not The Drinking. Fantastico.

Where did the summer go? I swear September never happened. Time marches on, but genius sticks around looking just as good as the day it was born, and what better way to welcome October than with the Pet Shop Boys‘ sublime My October Symphony? I had barely noticed summer drift away, but now that Autumn is in full swing we get to see nature at its most beautiful, a last hurrah before dying away for Winter. I don’t know how they did it, but with this song Pet Shop Boys somehow managed to encompass the bittersweet beauty of the leaves turning red and falling before the snow comes.

PET SHOP BOYS – MY OCTOBER SYMPHONY (128 kbps)

Having always loved Jesse Rose’s output it’s always nice to find a remix that slipped you by once in awhile. He takes the lovely vocals from the original and raps them round a well crafted trademark JR mover. Listen and be happy, especially on a miserable rainy day like today.

TELEPOPMUSIK – GHOST GIRL (JESSE ROSE REMIX) (128 kbps)

The music L.A. based dj / producer DâM-FunK -real name Damon Riddick- makes, is often associated with what most purist refer to as ‘boogie’. Basically mid-tempo post-disco electrofunk jams heavily influenced by early Prince records and technoguru Juan Atkins. Using almost exclusively vintage synths and drumcomputers, his productions are the closest any modern producer got to that typical early 80’s electrofunk sound. His title of Los Angeles’ ‘Ambassador of Modern Funk’ is well deserved. For this jam he teamed up with the lovely Fatima, but more about this super-talent later!

FATIMA – WARM EYES (PRODUCED BY DAM-FUNK) (128 kbps)

Lazer Sword have a lot of hopes and expectations surrounding their first LP already while its release is still close to a month away. Then again, they’ve hardly done anything disappointing so far so I’d say that the bar has been set high with well-deserved reason. The first single called Batman, set to appear on the upcoming LP, is a curious little track with creepy abrupt vocal samples and an extremely catchy bass-filled beat. It has got some solid remixes to support the track from artists like Lando Kal, Rustie and NGUZUNGUZU, and the last one needs to be shared. If Lazer Sword’s Batman is an opening track to entering a bizarre alternate parallel universe, NGUZUNGUZU have scored the heavy and haunting climax of the story.

LAZER SWORD – BATMAN (NGUZUNGUZU REMIX) (320 kbps)

What is the opposite thing of a c-c-c-combo breaker? A c-c-c-combo maker? Let’s say that the combination of J-Wow (Joao from Buraka Som Sistema) and Canblaster (Cédric from the ghetto) is one that is really pleasing to the ears. The track is a bit different than what you would expect to sprout from this hookup – a bit quieter than I would have expected. It’s kuduro but not, it has a dope synth finish and although it’s not as hyperactive as the collaboration of the two would’ve suggested they deliver quality as they always do and it’s still really, really good.

J-WOW – SPARK (CANBLASTER REMIX) (320 kbps)

This is not the only remix Brainfeeder delegate Lorn has done for producer Eskmo (based in the birthplace of glitch, the Bay Area). Lorn has remixed both Cloudlight and Come Back who where released on the same EP on Ninja Tune. You can listen to Eskmo’s Cloudlight and watch the bewildering video here. This track is mindblowing as fuck with a sound that’s difficult to pinpoint – but please allow me to try for I am a music critic. The track drives you up the wall in a good sense, as it’s really cheering but sad at the same time. A track that puts forward a new form of electronic music, one that stitches together dub, R’n’B and glitch. It is stupefying how music keeps evolving and evolving – a process that can be agitating at times but blows my mind when I come across tracks like this. Lorn’s remix for Eskmo’s Come Back is just as good – it’s haunting, but in a comforting way.

ESKMO – COME BACK (LORN’S DON’T EVER REMIX) (320 kbps)

The last time Darling Farah decided to rework a James Blake track, it was beyond anything I’d ever heard. His Sparing The Horses edit was an intergalactic piece of music that could instantly make me drop anything I was doing and let its earth-shattering vibes creep up on me and fill me up with motion. You can only imagine the hopes and satisfaction I got from seeing another refix with this killer combo attached to it appear on my screen. Darling Farah is back with a new edit of James Blake’s Don’t You Think I Do, and let me tell you what I think I do, it matches every expectation the last edit built up. This one is slightly less intergalactic and a whole lot more Sunday, so there’s being appropriate for you. Clear, clean, tranquil and deep– Another must-have Darling Farah meets James Blake refix for your time.
