I might have expressed my love for Manara (Who, on a side note, is making a Truancy volume soon! Yes!) and L-Vis 1990 numerous times on TRUANTS. I also might have expressed my love for their label Night Slugs on Rinse.fm, possibly. Fact is that I’m absolutely loving what these little Night Slugs are doing at the moment. For the people who haven’t been paying attention to what good music is this year and missed out on the history of this label, I’ll provide you a short re-cap: Night Slugs is the name of the already legendary club night hosted by the talented Bok Bok and L-Vis, which started to bubble two years ago and had huge line-ups a Dutch music lover can only dream about. Booking the likes of the Trouble & Bass crew, Roska, Terror Danjah, Zomby and having the best residents: themselves. Luckily for the people that live too far away to attend these affairs, they recently blasted off a label and it’s truly sublime. I wish I could write this article from a more objective sight, but fuck that. They released Moscas EP Square One, which is one of the best releases of this year already. This year will be really good for them, and I have a feeling they will make it good for us. They’ve taken the mysterious Londoner Girl Unit under their wing and will be releasing his anticipated tune I.R.L. on their label soon, for a preview of this track check out his MySpace or Bok Boks January Mix (18:55-21:30). For more Girl Unit (as I’m fairly sure that you were going to try find him on Google – however it won’t give you any useful links, dear reader), there is an old Girl Unit track in this fairly old mix of him. What can I say? I am dancing with joy. Last night I had a great dream about Egyptrixx putting out an EP through Night Slugs too, with remixes by Ikonika and Kingdom. If this is true? Only time/Beatport will tell! I suggest that you keep a close eye on this label to not sleep on any of their future releases. Maybe you would like to buy Citizens Dub/Pipey D by Bok Bok and Bubbz (and Brackles and Shortstuff) now that I’ve persuaded you to join the team of Night Slugs lovers, too. Thank me later!
That 12″ is absolutely nuts. Be sure to check out Pipey D on the flip. But really, Bok Bok is destroying the competition at the moment.
Agreed, the Pipey D track is also amazing. Bok Bok is absolutely killing it, I’m so excited for what’s coming up on Night Slugs and his mix tapes and remixes are on constant rotation here.
