A lot of time it can be quite disheartening looking through emails only to find tracks from people stuck in the post 2006 electro era but every now and then you come across a a little gem and today this comes in the form of a free EP from Aloo. Looking into who Aloo is, having previously not heard of him I came across the label the EP comes from and it turns out it’s a label called Astor Bell based in Stockholm focusing on minimal, IDM and techno that freely releases all their music. Yes all free. I highly recommend going through their back catalog as there are loads of hidden treasures including a fantastic Remix Compilation marking a one year anniversary that I’ve been rinsing the last two days. Hailing from Germany Aloo played a massive part in shaping the drum and bass scene in the Eastern part of Germany before dropping the BPM and moving into the techno field. His music is very reminiscent of Modeselektors work in the way of how diverse his tracks are, drawing in inspirations from all over the place to Ambient, IDM and Techno .Reading up a on the idea of the EP, Aloo apparently set out to deliver an EP transcending the boundary between visual and audial experiences and to take the listener into a colourful and dreamy world of synthesiser driven synaesthesia. I’d have happily paid money for this but here is six great tracks for nothing.
