Ready for the Weekend

We’ve gotta hand it to Drizzy and his crew for tipping us off on some fresh Canadian musical blood that’s proving to be the best thing to reach our speakers this week. Hailing from Toronto, The Weekend is made up of Jeremy Rose and Abel Tesfaye, a young musical act that seems to be rather anonymous, but identity is hardly a matter when the music speaks so loudly for itself. There are only a few incredible instances where the beat and the vocals seem to complement each other so seamlessly, but this is definitely one of them. The few tracks that have been surfacing on YouTube due to the She’s So Lovely collective crew are overflowing with the best kind of sensitivity that anyone needs to unwind at the end of a long week that make their artist name more than appropriate: I don’t think anyone has ever quite embodied the weekend vibes as these guys have musically done in their work.

With just three tracks online right now to attest to their talent, they’ve already proven to be comfortable in a range of styles. While Loft Music is the perfect chilled out R&B-esque track to jam out to, The Morning seems to be rooted in a different planet, lingering somewhere between a Flying Lotus trip and a fine-tuned, classier version of a Tyler, The Creator joint with more accessible lyrics to top it off. If that hasn’t made you fall blindly in love with this sound yet, move on to What You Need— the best of the bunch that drips sensuality in an Moments in Love kind of way, with its passionate synths that give the smooth vocals the flawless twist of bass in a way that resembles the touch of James Blake in his Harmonimix moods. It surely won’t be long before someone has the common sense to recognize this and sign The Weekend for big things, but until then here are the few tracks that we’ve been smashing on repeat all day for you to enjoy with your bass turned up. Can’t get more ready for the weekend than this.
