Federation Remixes Rihanna

Last week, the good people over at Federation already took over our playlists by dropping Natalie Storm’s long awaited Songs 2 Fuck And Fight 2 mixtape. Before anyone even had the time to recover from its aftershocks, they’ve hit us hard again by getting at us through their latest weekly podcast with a brand new dancehall remix of Rihanna’s What’s My Name, accompanied by a fresh new feature in Vybz Kartel.

It’s always a given that any number one hit is sure to bring on tons of remixes to go with it, but Rihanna always seem to bring an excessive amount of them to go with her chart-toppers. A quick search on her end of the year jam with her not-so-secret admirer Drake proves that What’s My Name is no exception to this: there’s a massive number of remixes and mashups to be found, from Sean Kingston spitting his own interpretation over the original Stargate produced beat to homemade reworks found floating around that had already matched up Riri with Vybz’s flow from Beat Up Di Pussy.

But we have to commend Federation for being the only ones to completely nail it here. This incredible remix produced by Max Glazer, who incidentally used to accompany Rihanna on tour as her DJ, and Ricky Blaze adds the extra oomph to the original track that has transformed it from a most played track in your iTunes to a dancefloor killer. Plus, my sincerest apologies go out to Drizzy, but Vybz seems to embody the vibes that Rihanna’s going for far better than his old “square root of sixty nine” puns. With this added infectious riddim and a bassline that will possess your whole body, Federation have revamped the track we’ve been singing along to all year to begin with.
