It seems like all the kids on the streets at the moment just want to make bangers. Nothing wrong with bangers mind you. I love bangers, but when I find a 17 year old producer going by the name of Etch, making beats like Flying Lotus and Mount Kimbie, it just makes me let out a nice, long sigh of relief. The fact that he’s also from Brighton makes me especially proud to live here. Having discovered him through a friend (sup Bobby) a couple of weeks back I was immediately blown away by the potential talent. With all these young producers bursting onto the scene at the moment, he’s rightfully earned himself a spot on the list of artists proving that age isn’t an issue when it comes to making beats. Taking a large influence from artists such as Flying Lotus and James Blake, his beats are wonderfully crafted with some of the most well produced percussion I’ve heard in recent times. He’s given me two tracks to share with you guys in beautiful 320, titled ‘Tumbling Down The Well’ and ‘Siren Call’, the former being a staple tune in helping me through my last couple weeks of college. Fans of the 4 holy H’s; Hessle Audio, Hemlock, Hotfllush and Hyperdub should love this. He was also nice enough to prepare a new special mix exclusively for TRUANTS, filled with tracks by Boards Of Canada, James Blake, Hudson Mohawke and TRUANT favourite Jackson & His Computer Band.
