It’s A Pleasure to Meet You

Spending my Summer in Berlin has left me with a lot of delightful memories and even the bad ones have turned into something enchanting. The underground stations are probably the places that evoke the widest variety of recaptures. Especially Warschauer Strasse, the S-Bahn and U-Bahn station located in the heart of Friedrichshain. Countless of times have I seen people march through this street protesting against different causes; my earliest memory of Berlin is an agent punching a young man in the face right outside the U-Bahn station. ACAB! (Sorry.) My more recent memories of Warschauer Strasse are better, seeing as this is the stop where your nights often begin. That time my friend and I went to get some water at the youth hostel on the opposite of the station and accidentally detached the tap from the wall, causing the bathroom to overflow. When my slightly intoxicated friend tripped over and fell on his chin, bleeding for the rest of the night over his white shirt, not understanding the situation at all. Listening to deep techno at the night store while drinking a beverage and eating some kebab and that one time my friends drink was spiked and she was laying down on the bridge laughing hysterically at ever green subject near her, while my co-blogger Sin and I were anxious about what the fuck was going on – far from funny at the time, but hilarious to look back  at now.

Oh Berlin, I wish I could be in you. A label that I’ ve already written about here, Stil Vor Talent, plays a big role in my Heimweh nach Berlin and not only the wonderful track Ich & Du, no. They have a discography of a lot of good releases; I own about twenty. What could possibly be better than finding a midway between my personal memories of Berlin city and the memories I draw from Stil Vor Talent? Right, a track dedicated to Warschauer Strasse by the founder of said label, the techno and house producer Oliver Koletzki. This track is from his second album called Großstadtmärchen and it’ s the only song off the album that doesn’t sound incredibly sweet, although it’s still really funky. I’ve been rinsing the entire record a lot but for some reason this track is the one that stands out for me and I just can’ t put my finger on the reason why. Maybe it’s in the name. Best of both Berliner worlds: Koletzki and Warschauer Strasse.
